Big Bad Wolf Adventure Challenge 2014

BIG BAD WOLF ADVENTURE RACE PARTICIPANTS MUST PRE REGISTER. 5K PARTICIPANTS MAY REGISTER DAY OF EVENT. This is a hybrid race between a dry triathlon, relay, and an adventure race. Run, bike, and canoe through Mecosta County on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and enjoy the beauty of central Michigan. This event is for all participants from beginner to experienced. The course is flat for the run and bike with a very negotiable Muskegon river. This is a linear course and NO orienteering needed. The OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS 5K is also getting a new name. The BIG BAD WOLF 5K. Very original I know, but this will help with shirts and pint glasses. This will begin at 9 am and strt with the BIG BAD ADVENTURE CHALLENGE and will also run the same course. Distances Run - 5Kish (actually 3.3 miles) first leg of course and 1.08 miles at the end of course (Big Rapids Riverwalk) Bike- 6.45 miles on the White Pine Trail Canoe/Kayak- About 4 Miles (1 Hour) on the Muskegon River. Starting at Paris Park ending at Northend Park.

Trap Shooting Tournament

The Mecosta County Rod and Gun Club is sponsoring three Trap Tournaments. The cost is $5.00 a round. The public is welcome and please, bring a friend. August 16, Trap Scrap Shoot 10:00 a.m. August 23, Trap Backup Shoot 10:00 a.m. August 30, Trap Redbird Shoot 10:00 a.m. The Gun Club is located 4 miles West of Mecosta on M-20. BBQ Cook-Off and Famliy Day Fundrasier

Sparta Rodeo

Sparta Rodeo is back again this year on Saturday, August 30th and Sunday, August 31st. It is located at the Sparta Rodeo Grounds on the corner of M-37 and 13 Mile Road in Sparta, MI. The gates open at 3:00 with lawn seating and the rodeo begins at 5:00. Admission for Adults 18+ is $12.00, Youth 6-17 is $8.00 and Kids 5 and under are FREE. Food vendors and Sparta Rodeo merchandise available for purchase. \\r\\nThe rodeo features Saddle Bronc, Team Roping, Cowgirls Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Bareback Bronc, Mutton Bustin and Boot Scramble. \\r\\nCamping is also available August 27th to September 1st. \\r\\nSee website for details: www.spartarodeo.com \\r\\n\\r\\n

Annual Amvets Post 1941 Fall Poker Run

Sign up: 10 am to noon. Return to post by 5:00 pm. Dinner served at 6:00 pm. Poker Run with Dinner: $12 per person Dinner only: $6 per person RAIN OR SHINE. Dawg Tags Tattoo will be on site. Silent Auction. Poker Hand Prizes: 1st- $100 2nd-$50 3rd-$25 4th-$15 Door prizes also.

Salvation Army Rummage Sale

The Salvation Army will be hosting their upcoming Rummage Sale on Friday August 29th and Saturday August 30th. Folks looking for the rummage sale on Friday will find it at the All City Sale (Big Rapid City Hall 8am-2pm) and at the Big Rapids Corps (325 linden St. 8am-6pm). On Saturday the Rummage Sale will be held at the Big Rapids Corps from 8am-6pm and will feature family activities, a pig roast lunch (Noon), and music. The pig roast lunch will be available for a donation to The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is currently accepting donations of household items, in good working condition to sell at the Rummage Sale. If you would like to donate to the sale, drop your item off at the Big Rapids Corps (325 Linden St, Big Rapids) Monday through Friday between 9am and 4pm. No weekend drop offs and no large furniture or mattresses. All proceeds benefit the Salvation Army of Big Rapids and it’s programs and services offered to Mecosta, Osceola, Lake and Newaygo Counties.
