Recreation Program: Water Aerobics

From 9:00AM to 10:00AM

Water aerobics will be held by Jan Weining every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from May 27-August 12 (Excluding July 3rd and 24th) from 9am to 10am in the Ferris Recreation Center Pool. Cost: $4 per participant. Forms and further information can be found at brpr.org or by calling 231-592-4038.

84th Annual Summer Food Service & Reading Program

From 11:00AM to 1:00PM

Hosted by Big Rapids Public Schools: Free Lunch and books to ALL children 18 years old and younger (or persons up to age 26 who are enrolled n an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled that is recognized by a State or local public educational agency) Regardless of your current school or lunch status.

Located at Big Rapids Middle School on weekdays between 6/8 and 8/28 from 11:00am-1:00pm.

Organizations are welcome: Daycares, Preschools, Bible Schools, 4-H Programs, Camps, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, any organization involving involvinkg children 18 and under are welcome to attend. If you would like, you can call ahead to reserve a table for your organization to be seated together.

Recreation Program: Tai Chi

From 12:00PM to 1:00PM

Tai Chi will be instructed by Mary Loesch (Cert. International Instructor) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12-1 pm in Hemlock Park. In event of rain, the program will be relocated to the City Hall Commission Room. This program will run from June 1st until August 31st. Cirque Amongus Show

From 1:30PM to 2:30PM

The Cirque Amongus Show is a surprising combination of comedy, circus skills, and audience participation guaranteed to amaze and delight young and old alike. This event is free and is held in the Morton Township Library Community Room.

Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency (NEMCSA) Head Start along with the Great Start School Readiness (GSRP) Programs in the Mecosta Osceola Intermediate School District as well as Pine River and Marion are accepting applications for children that will be 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1, 2015 for the 2015-16 school year. These programs are offered at no cost for families that qualify!

Early Head Start

Early Head Start is a free program by Mid-Michigan Community Action offered to pregnant women, infants, toddlers ages 0-3, and their families. It is available in Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland,and Osceola Counties.

  • Parent and Child Socialization Activities
  • Support for Pregnant Women
  • Breast Pump Loan Program
  • Breastfeeding Support Group & Counseling
  • Parent-Infant Massage Instruction

  • Parent Education & Involvement
  • Access to Community Services and Resources

Great Start Home Visits

A Home Visiter is available in Mecosta and Osceola counties to families with infant, toddler, and preschool age children.

This free program includes personal home visits with activities for parent and child together, developmental screenings, as well as parenting education and support to guide early learning. From newborn babies until the beginning of kindergarten, MOISD Great Start Home Visits can help you get the right start for your child.

Parents and Care Givers are also welcome to attend free Community Play Groups at the

Eastwood Early Childhood Center

410 North Third Avenue in Big Rapids.

They are held from 9:30am to 11:00am on Monday and Friday dates that follow the MOISD calendar.
